Working in Subgroups in the Google Meet Application

To utilize the ability to create subgroups in the Google Meet application, an extended license—Google Workspace for Education: Teaching and Learning Upgrade—is required.
This license can be activated by contacting the IT Support Office (CNTI room 4/15).

To divide meeting participants into groups, select the Activities icon available at the bottom right corner. One of the available options is Breakout rooms.

Configuring rooms during a meet

Upon selecting the configuration button, two groups will automatically be created with assigned participants. The number of rooms can be adjusted, which will automatically change the number of participants in the other rooms. To individually add a participant to a selected room, select the Clear or X icon next to the participant’s name and, while holding the left mouse button on the name, drag them to the chosen room.

Ending a subgroup session after a set time has elapsed

Each meeting participant assigned to a room will have to accept the assignment. If the Timer option is enabled, each participant will see a time notification (a yellow bar at the top left of the screen). Participants in the rooms can communicate with each other but do not participate in the main meeting—this also applies to chat usage.
